My personal journey to becoming Doula and Childbirth Educator has been an organic, perfectly unfolding path of trust and of following my heart. It was never a pre-chosen career path, but more of an undeniable response to what lights up my world.
As an awakened woman, I am deeply committed to my own self-evolution, expansion, and growth. I have always known that working with and empowering others was something that I was passionate about and something that I knew would always be a part of how I moved through my day-to-day world.
After graduating from St.F.X. University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, I dove in to the realm of social work, holding positions at women’s shelters, women’s centers, and schools. Although I had followed the “path” of getting an education and then a job, something was missing – all of the pieces were in place on the outside, but my soul, my inner fire wasn’t lit up.
In October of 2012, at 3 months pregnant, I walked (well…. ran) in to ‘Decloaking & Living Authentically’ a 5-day intensive WEL-Systems® experience, where I was awakened to a whole new way of seeing mySelf and my world. I woke up to my immense potential, experienced what it felt like to be internally referenced, and re-learned to TRUST in my body and the brilliance that it carries. In March of 2013, I gave birth to my first child, an awakened, fiery, spirited little girl. My own birthing experience was intense, but I trusted in my bodys ability to bring my baby earthside without intervention or complication. I was surrounded by a beautiful village of people who each contributed greatly to my experience. We do not, or should not, have to do it alone. Birth is a whole-self experience – body, mind, spirit,- and to be in the presence of others who fully trust in the process is essential in keeping us attuned to the inner-self.
There is so much potential for self-evolution and awakening in the experiences of pregnancy and childbirth. Our bodies are intensely alive when we are carrying and nurturing another life. It is such an incredible invitation to stop and to listen. My own birthing experience, combined with re-birthing mySelf through WEL-Systems® experiences, woke me up to my passion for being with women as they they move through the waves of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood.
I completed my Doula training through DONA International in October, 2013. In June, 2015, I completed my Childbirth Education training with Birth Arts International. For me, being a Doula and Childbirth Educator is not something I do, it is a part of who I am. I choose to live my life mindfully, with intention. I am deeply committed to creating community where birth is honored, respected, and embraced as a natural, magical, and empowering experience.
I know this is just the beginning, and I look forward to so much more!
With Respect, Integrity, and Generosity of Spirit…
